What does a Gas Safety Check cover?


 At Plumber Portsmouth, our contract plumbers are ready to perform Gas Safety inspections and issue Gas Safety reports. Our inspections include:


-   Ensuring the safe positioning of each gas appliance


-   Checking that the appliance has a safely installed, and efficiently

       working flue or chimney

     

-   Testing the flue combustion to make sure the boiler is burning correctly and

     does not produce carbon monoxide


-   Checking the safe and correct operation of the appliances and controls

     

 Checking all devices are working

   

-   Checking that the appliance is operating correctly by testing the working gas

    pressure or the consumption rate, and making any necessary adjustments


-   Corrosion and leak inspection of appliance


-   Electrical connection check


Gas Safety Certificate


Once the gas safety inspection has been completed by our contract gas-safety engineers, they will issue you with a Gas Safety Certificate – also known as a Gas Safety Report. The report includes:

The location and description of each appliance checked

An explanation of the checks or tests that have been performed on each appliance


A description of any remedial work required or completed

Confirmation that the appliance(s) meet the correct safety standard

Re-servicing dates of the appliance(s)

Please not that landlords of any tenanted residential or commercial properties are legally obliged to have the properties gas appliances inspected and Gas Safety Certificate renewed annually. Whilst for home owners this is not a legal requirement, yearly servicing of gas appliances is recommended to ensure the safety of your property and those who live there.

  • Does a homeowner need a Gas Safety Certificate?

    Unlike a landlord, a homeowner is not legally obliged to have a Gas Safety Certificate. But, boiler installations must be performed by a Gas Safe Engineer.

  • How long are Gas Safety Certificates valid for?

    Gas Safety Certificates – also known as Gas Safety Reports or CP12s – are valid for 12 months. Landlords need to have their gas appliances checked every year before the expiration date of their certificates.

  • What is a Gas Safety Record?

    The details of the works completed by a gas safe engineer while on your premises are documented in a Gas Safety Record. If you are a landlord, you are legally required to obtain a Gas Safety Record from your engineer. However, the document might change based on whether you've had the appliance safety inspected, or just serviced.


  • Who is authorised to perform Gas Safety checks?

    Only Gas Safe Registered engineers can carry out Gas Safety inspections. At Plumber Portsmouth, all our gas engineers are fully accredited.
